![]() Needless to say it aint good for a 7.3L to suddenly turn 5-6,000 rpm's. When I do have trouble it is usually catastrophic failure and it goes to the trans shop for replacement and cooler flush.īwest I had a bus loose 4th gear the other day on the interstate running 60 mph. I just have 17 buses here and I just don't have that much trouble with them. I usually pop a new one in of the same number and try it instead of doing the visual thing. This indicates the springs/weights and thus the RPM. Look on the end and you'll see a 3 digit number (460, 461, 462 if memory serves correctly). Often, you can't see a problem with a bad one. Without pulling the pan, the governor is probably the only external thing you can check. When they go, it acts like it shifts out of one gear and not into the next. Complete Recycling Group - Heavy Truck Parts. ![]() I finally got through to the rebuild outfit and they told me I have a 3 year parts and labor warrenty. I do not put in transmissions for that very reason. This trans was put in by an International/ Allison dealer. Yes the cooler and all lines were flushed. Maybe the linkage? Is it a column shifter? Was the cooler flushed or replaced when the trans was replaced? If not.that's probably it. If it breaks, well, it needed replacing anyway. Stuck modulator, governor issues, stuck accumulator valve among other possibilities. It will probably require dissambly of the transmission to repair this one. Perhaps this blocked up and is causing control problems, although I would suspect trouble in all gears if that were the case. I know the governor tube has a little screen. Perhaps trash has gotten in there somewhere. I would guess something to do with the governor, modulator, or valve body passages. Ihave already called the dealer on this and there is warrenty on it but it would be nice to have an easy fix so it doesn't need to be towed. ![]() It's not slipping just not shifting to the next gear. The last time I tried it it fail to shift into 3rd. After it warms up (about 30 minutes of route driving) it fails to shift into 4th. This unit sits around a lot but has always been a reliable bus. This trans was replaced with a rebuild less than 2000 miles and 6 months ago. I have a Ford B700 with 5.9 Cummins in front of a 545. ![]()
